In the Making....

 With  recent vacation, family visiting from out of state, Thanksgiving, and some new responsibilities that I'm now in charge of....let's just say I haven't quite figured out how to balance everything going on in my life. Which I hope I figure out soon, because I want to continue to blog about all my craftiness and other things I stumble across.  So I hope for those who read this blog will bare with me (if there is actually people out there that read it), I will try my best to keep it going. But in all honesty this blog is for me so I will do what I can.

I'm in the making of creating something spectacular!! Something that's been around in my family since I can remember and I wanted to make one for my little kiddos to enjoy as well during the Christmas season!

Can you figure out what's in the works? I'm sure the last picture will give it away. I can't wait to show you the finish project!

 A time to reflect on the things you are thankful for.

I'm  thankful that this Arizona weather finally decided to cool down.  To welcome the season I made a Thanksgiving wreath. This in my version of this turtorial I found a while ago.

Halloween Party Treat

With Halloween just right around the corner I thought I would post a Halloween treat for you. 

Carmel Chex Mix

In a large paper bag mix the following:

1 16oz box of Rice Chex

1 cup slivered almonds

1 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

In a large sauce pan melt:

1 cup butter

2 cups brown sugar 

1/2 cup white Karo syrup

Bring to a rolling boil for 1 mintue. Remove from heat and add 1/2 tsp of baking soda. Mix well. Pour butter mixture over cereal in the paper bag. Be careful VERY HOT!! Roll top of bag shut and shake to coat the cereal with the butter mixture. Place in microwave and cook for 1 minute then remove and shake, place back in microwave and cook for 1 minute then remove and shake and finally place back in microwave and cook for 1 more minute and then shake again.

Cut open side of bag, pour mix out and let cool. Again be very careful it will be HOT! ( I like to stir my mix occasionally to brake in up a bit so its not in clumps...that way its easier to serve. )

I then added a little candy corn to each cone of chex mix. Which brings me to my next thing.... paper cones like these are a fun way to display your treats if you are planning to go to a party and are bringing something like chex mix!

All I did was cut out a 9 inch circle of scrapbook paper and lined it with tin foil 

(or you could use parchment paper too)

Roll it into a cone and add some ribbon and a tag! Halloween tags are everywhere in blogland if you don't have any on hand for yourself. Easy as that!!

You could even give this treat when you go visiting teaching before the end of the month ;). Or lets face it....keep it around the house for something to munch on!

SpOoKy SpIdErS

Made these cute spiders the other day with the kids.  Thanks Kristina for the idea!

All you need:

egg cartons

black acrylic paint

pipe cleaner

hot glue gun 

white puffy paint

I hung them by poking a pin size hole on the top and strung fishing wire through it.

My 3 yr old likes to call them "spooky spiders" so she inspired me to make a cute banner to go along with them.

Gives our home the right touch for Halloween!!

Sew Busy

For the last couple of weeks (even months) I've been so busy with life in general, but also sewing!! Honestly though, its been a lot of fun and quite addicting. One of my favorite sewing projects to do is re-purpose things.

Like this crazy cute knee length skirt, which use to be long.

Or these once upon a time long pants that helped me get through the summer shorts!!

For those two projects I used this awesome blog.  She really does have some great tutorials!  I just wish I was as clever as she is when it comes to re-purposing or any other sewing project for that matter! Its amazing all the cute things he does. But that's what I like about her blog, she shows you how to make everything. Its Great!!

Along with that I also found a tutorial on how to make a super
easy pillow case.

My daughter loves anything princess and wanted a princess room, but she has a mom who is not so keen on the whole character themed bedroom. So we both agreed on a pillow case. Which is a great way to incorporate something "character" without going too over board. Anyway..... I'm hoping to make more of these pillow cases in the near future. ( Great gift idea by the way.)

And to end the month of September off right I was pleased to make this darling little thing for Ms. C.
........

Isn't this skirt just the cutest thing you every saw!?!

My friend and I had a blast making these for our little girls. I don't know exactly where my friend found the idea, but they were super easy!  I couldn't go without making something for my lil' guy. So I threw this easy tie and suspenders in to match.

 "Sew" that's what my busy life has consisted of!! And I'm sure with Halloween and the rest of the holidays just right around the corner there will be more projects to come!

Well I hoped you enjoyed, and if you ever want to be "sew busy" doing something productive..... then just whip out your sewing machine like me!!

Toy Boxes

Lately my kids room has been driving me crazy!  TOYS everywhere!! I quickly realized I needed to do something about it, so I made some toy boxes. Well, let me rephrase that....I had the idea and my sweet husband made them!! (Thank You Sky) They turned out just how I pictured them.....

Then It was my turn to doll them up a bit!

Now I can honestly say, when I walk into the room I don't want to pull my hair out anymore!!

Easy project, easy fix to my kids room chaos!!

Gift Idea

So a few days ago I had to put together a little treat for a youth activity that I was involved in and I came up with this idea

As I was putting it together I thought to myself that this would be a really cute gift idea.  Just grab a cheap cookie jar ( I'm sure you can buy one from anywhere) a packet of cookies or two, or maybe even bake some yourself,

and embellish the lid any way you want!! Then I got to thinking that if you really want to go all out, you could grab some of these cookie mixes

and stuff them inside the jar, combine it with a cookie sheet, a cookie scooper, spatula, and anything else that you might need when someone makes cookies! So there you have it.... a super cute and super easy gift idea!
